Terms of Use
Effective 12 September 2026 · Version 1.0
These terms govern your use of the MatterScope application (“the app”), published by Christopher Lewis Cox (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use the app on Apple devices that you own or control, in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and these terms. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, redistribute or resell the app except as permitted by law.
2. Educational purpose & accuracy
MatterScope is an educational tool. Many of its visualisations are deliberate simplifications chosen to teach rather than to depict literal appearance — for example, electrons drawn on rings rather than as probability clouds. The app labels content by scientific status (established, simplified model, active research, speculative) to make this clear.
While we take care to base numerical data on long-established public scientific references, the app is provided for general learning and interest. It is not intended for professional, academic, clinical, safety-critical or commercial reliance, and should not be used as an authoritative scientific reference.
3. Intellectual property
The app, its name, design, original text, artwork and code are owned by us and protected by applicable laws. Underlying scientific facts and public-domain reference values are, of course, not owned by anyone. These terms grant you no rights in our trademarks or branding.
4. No warranty
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
6. Apple
Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
7. Changes
We may update these terms as the app evolves. Changes take effect when posted here, with a revised effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.
